West Ashley High School Celebrates 85 CTE Completers at Breakfast Event

Story by Donnie Newton, PR Coordinator West Ashley HS

Charleston, SC —  85 seniors from West Ashley High School were recognized recently as Completers in a particular CTE Career Major at the CTE Completer Breakfast on April 22nd. West Ashley High School offers 14 different Career & Technology Education (CTE) Majors, ranging from Accounting, Marketing, Sports Medicine, or Web & Digital Communications. At the CTE Completer Breakfast, the food was prepared and served by West Ashley High’s own Culinary Arts students led by their teacher Chef Jason Wheless.

The students received a silver cord to wear at graduation to symbolize their achievements within the CTE Department and a certificate that exhibits the completion of their chosen major. Principal Lee Runyon, Associate Principal Ryan Cumback, and Assistant Principal Gayle Dorsel presented the completers with their awards. Ginger Reijners, the CTE Director for CCSD, and Chad Vail, the Work-based Learning Partnerships Coordinator, were also present for the event.

Studies have shown that students who complete a rigorous academic core combined with a career pathway perform better in high school, are less likely to drop out of high school, and are more likely to continue on to receive a post-secondary education.
