Military Magnet Academy Students and Educators Shine at SC Computer Science Summit
September 15-16, 2025 – North Charleston, SC
Students and educators for Military Magnet Academy (MMA) participated in several important roles in the South Carolina Computer Science & STEM Summit staged at North Charleston Convention Center. The statewide event welcomed 100+ professionals and 200+ students over two days of engaging programs.

MMA’s Information Support & Service CTE Instructor Carla Ferrette-Clark delivered a powerful welcome message as the day’s program began.
Before keynote speaker Brigadier General Linda Riedel began her remarks, she presented Carla Ferrette-Clark with a special military challenge coin.
Darwin Shorter, MMA Computer Science CTE Instructor and President of the Computer Science Teachers Association of South Carolina served as the moderator for a panel discussion of STEM educators from throughout the state.
Carla Ferrette-Clark served as one of the featured panelists sharing best practices and resources with other attending educators.

Military Magnet Academy sophomores Venus Ramirez Jimenez and Christian Anderson participated in the panel discussion with other students from other SC high schools and colleges.
At the conclusion of the opening session, CCSD’s Executive Director of Career and Technical Education Dr. Richard Gordon congratulated all four participants from Military Magnet Academy!
