SC Ports Authority Hosts Military Magnet and Burke Students for Career Awareness Visit

Students from Military Magnet Academy and Burke High School recently visited the South Carolina Ports Authority headquarters in Mt. Pleasant for an interactive work-based learning experience. Guided by SC Ports team members Hampton Lee and Cami McCoy, the students gained invaluable insights into the various career opportunities available at the port.

Key Highlights of the Tour:

  • Operations Overview: Students learned about the daily operations and logistics involved in managing one of the busiest ports in the country.
  • Career Opportunities: Information was provided on the diverse career paths within the port, including roles in logistics, engineering, and management.
  • Technological Innovations: The tour showcased the advanced technology and equipment used to streamline port operations.
  • Environmental Initiatives: Students were informed about the port’s efforts to maintain sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
  • Hands-On Experience: The cohort had the chance to see the port’s facilities up close, including cargo handling and storage areas.

This field trip offered the students a comprehensive understanding of the port’s operations and the potential career opportunities in the maritime industry.

We were fortunate to have Colonel Dawson, MMA’s former principal and a member of the Rotary Club of North Charleston, join the scholars on this field trip. The Rotary Club of North Charleston is a champion & supporter of the MMA career mentoring cohort.

A huge thank you to all the stakeholders that supported this college and career readiness field trip – Thank you for investing in our future leaders!
