April 13, 2015 – Mt. Pleasant, SC – Mr. Mark Sanford, U.S. Representative for South Carolina’s 1st congressional district recently visited students in Kirk Beilke’s management and marketing classes at Wando High School. Congressman Sanford is an official sponsor of the Capital Hill Stock Market Challenge in which members of congress chose local schools in their constituencies.  There are 4350 teams from throughout the United States and 8 of these teams are at Wando High School in Mr. Beilke’s classes.

Participating students began with $100K to invest in the stock market and make trades over 14 weeks in an effort to increase their portfolio over other teams. Currently Wando has two teams in the top 500, on in 118th place and one in 350th place overall out of 4350 teams nationwide! Mr. Sanford was impressed with students’ knowledge of the market place and spoke of the importance of understanding and participating in financial investments in their future.
