NIWC Hosts Deer Park MS Robotics Students for Career Awareness and Exploration Visit

Deer Park Middle School’s FIRST Tech robotics team, the CYBUCKS, spent the morning of December 18, 2024 exploring the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC) offices in North Charleston, SC.  Scholars were given a tour of different shops within the facility.  They gained awareness about the wide variety of 3D printing materials and the real-world applications of 3D printing.

Students learned about the different tools used to cut and shape metals along with descriptions of code used with the machines. They also learned about electrical engineering and watched a demonstration on an oscilloscope. They were able to ask questions to mechanical engineers and electrical engineers to learn about how they became involved in their careers.

Deer Park students engaged in great conversations with the engineers at NIWC, learning about a variety of career pathways that involve 3D printing, coding, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering and design.

Huge thanks to all the professionals at NIWC that hosted our Deer Park MS students for an interactive work-based learning experience!
