In a dynamic effort to cultivate the next generation of public safety professionals, Charleston County Public Safety has launched an inspiring Student Leader Internship Program in collaboration with the Charleston County School District. This unique initiative is designed specifically for high school juniors within the district who aspire to pursue careers in public safety.

The Student Leader Internship Program spans two years and offers an unparalleled opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience in the field. As part of this comprehensive program, interns will engage in a range of activities including rigorous certification courses and practical training that align with the standards of Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center and Charleston County EMS. By successfully completing these requirements, students will be positioned for a fast track to employment within these vital agencies.

But the program extends beyond professional training. Participants will also acquire essential life skills that prepare them for both their future careers and personal lives. They will experience mock interviews, providing a valuable chance to practice and refine their professional presentation and communication skills. Community service is a core component of the program, with interns contributing to meaningful projects such as creating blankets for the local NICU and assembling toys for the pet shelter, fostering a strong sense of social responsibility and empathy.

Additionally, the program includes financial literacy education, where local banks offer insights into effective money management. Students will learn strategies to save and manage their earnings, setting them up for financial stability as they transition into adulthood.
