Navel Information Warfare Center Atlantic Host Fall STEM Activities
Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic hosted Fall STEM Activities in schools throughout the Lowcountry between the months of October – December 2024. The activity, “Engineering Balloon Cars,” encouraged problem solving, engineering, basic math and physics, and following the engineering design process. Students had to design a car using basic materials, competing against each other to see who could engineer their car to go the furthest distance. Students were able to alter their designs after their test runs in order to try to increase their distance.Sessions were conducted in Elementary, Middle, and High School, with curriculum structured to their individual grade levels. NIWC Atlantic personnel taught the interactive sessions. Supplies for the activity were provided by NIWC Atlantic and the Office of Naval Research.
