Students met at Midland Park Primary school on June 13 for an orientation meeting. During the summer internships kickoff meeting, students met with supervisors from their assigned departments and completed essential documents for their experience.

Each student will have a midpoint and end of internship evaluation meeting with their supervisor. Students also complete weekly journals with reflections on their experiences and work a minimum of 120 hours in their role. Upon completion, students turn in their body of work, including their Training Agreement and Weekly Journals, to the Teacher of Record at their school for grading.

Each student that completes the internship program will have earned a high school work-based learning course credit and over $2000 in wages!

HOST DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT
For the second summer in a row, a special cohort of 10 multilingual students have joined the CCSD Office of Translation & Interpretation (OTIS) to assist elementary schools with registration. Prior to being placed in their assigned schools, these student interns participated in a specially curated training course led by Diana Saillant, CEO of Saillant Language Consulting, LLC. Two summer interns assigned to the CCSD Multilingual Services & Outreach department also participated in the special interpretation and translation training.

OTIS Director Angela Rush and her team strategically placed the interns with CCSD elementary schools that need extra registration support. Families registering their elementary age children for school, often for the first time, are greeted and supported during their experience by the interns in cooperation with each school’s bilingual professionals.

Special thanks to the following CCSD departments for their expert help preparing for this summer’s cohort of student interns:

  • Tameka Brown, Security and Emergency Management
  • Michael Bryson and Judy Wyndham, Information Technology
  • Aisha Singletary, Kronos / Payroll
  • Sharmaine Montgomery and Marianne Steele, Human Resources
  • ALL THE AWESOME HOST DEPARTMENTS!!!
