West Ashley High’s Medieval Trebuchet Team Excels in Competition

Students from West Ashley High School competed again this year in the annual Trebuchet competition hosted by The Citadel.

The WAHS team called “Trebu-Tronix” was led by Nicholas Holmes, also the school’s Mechatronics teacher.

This year the level of competition increased dramatically with a total of 78 teams from elementary through college, military and even corporate entries!

High school teams actually built a full scale trebuchet, which looks like a large medieval rocket launcher/sling shot.

In the high school division, WAHS’s  Trebu-Tronix earned 3rd place for accuracy and 2nd place in design.

In the exiting distance competition,  Trebu-Tronix finished 3rd out of every trebuchet there; 1st among all middle and high schools… losing only to pro teams by only 50 feet!!

After the competition, Mr. Holmes extended a huge thank  you to Google, SPAWAR, Boeing, The Citadel, and everyone that supported his students in this competition.
