Wando Culinary Students Bring Home The Gold

Wando Culinary Students Bring Home The Gold

Submitted by: Chef Molly Gordon – Wando High School Culinary Arts CTE Teacher

3 Wando Students participated in this year’s SC ProStart Invitational. This year’s Competition was presented by the United States Coast Guard and The South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association. This was South Carolina’s 20th Student Invitational.

More than 150 students from 20 high schools demonstrated their business acumen and culinary arts skill set at the statewide competition.

The teams all did an amazing job, we were up against some pretty steep competition in the Restaurant Management competition.

At the Awards Brunch they announced the top 5 Winning Teams in each category and the 1st place winners will represent the entire state of South Carolina at the National ProStart Student Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland April 25th-29th.

We are SO proud and excited to announce Chef Gordon and her students have WON FIRST PLACE and will be headed to Nationals next month! Their concept “Southern Strides” a coastal seafood focused upscale dining restaurant was praised by all the judges.

Cooper Stapleton, Ramell Bagtas, and Sarah Dzielinski worked so incredibly hard and KILLED IT during competition. Chef Gordon has never seen students perform as professionally as these three did during the competition.

They could not have done it without our mock judges and incredible mentor, Mrs. Mandy Hines, North Carolina’s former Prostart Coordinator and Johnson & Wales’ former admissions representative.

This win is a true testament that hard work does pay off! We are so excited and proud of this extremely coveted achievement, and can’t wait to represent South Carolina at The NPSI!

Thank you for your continued support to my program and students!
