Haut Gap Middle Goes Kayaking
8th Grade AVID students from Haut Gap Middle School went on a guided kayak tour with Charleston Outdoor Adventures. The field trip started with a quick kayak tutorial and then we paddled on Folly River, exploring creeks and learning about the importance of the wetlands and wildlife in our ecosystem, lowcountry culture and local history. They were privileged enough to see DHEC redistributing oyster shells from Bowens Island Restaurant into the estuary. Students saw dolphins, various bird species, fish and crabs. The students got hands – on experience with hospitality and tourism and agriculture, food and natural resources career clusters by discussing various careers in the environmental and outdoor industry.
