James Island Charter HS Students Participate in AI Horizons Career Challenge
James Island Charter High School AP CSP students are participating in the US Dept. of Education “AI Horizons Career Challenge.” Students propose an innovative AI solution that will reimagine a different way of working in a career field within their community.
The James Island Career & Technical Education Department held a community AI Career panel presentation with five career fields: the steel industry, government utilities industry, law enforcement industry, military/aerospace and automotive industries to prepare students in an AI-ready workforce.
The speakers highlighted ways to leverage AI effectively in their careers, from critical thinking and creative problem-solving to understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations. Students are challenged to identify a workplace problem, develop an AI solution concept, and then create a realistic plan for how the solution could be implemented with a local employer by considering the following AI risks: job impact, over-reliance, data security, system failures, and any skills gap within the workforce.
Up to 10 winning teams from various schools nationwide could win.
