Students met at Midland Park Primary school on June 5 for an orientation meeting. During the summer internships kickoff meeting, students met with supervisors from their assigned departments and completed essential documents for their experience.
Each student had a midpoint and end of internship evaluation meeting with their supervisor. Student interns also completed weekly journals with reflections on their experiences and worked a minimum of 120 hours in their role. Upon completion, students turned in their body of work, including their Training Agreement and Weekly Journals, to the Teacher of Record at their school for grading.
HOST DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHTS
The CCSD Gifted and Talented Department hosts an annual Summer SAIL camp, where 3rd-5th grade students in SAIL programs across the county are invited to take classes based on their academic interests in a 3-week long camp. This year, 6 student interns helped facilitate this camp, assisting teachers, administration, and supporting the students as needed. Supervised by Gifted and Talented Assistant Academic Director, Elizabeth Uptegrove, as well as camp administer, Erin McGee Young, the interns were empowered with specific training and skill sets to further prepare them for the workforce.
The CCSD Visual and Performing Arts Department hosts a similar experience annually called Summer SMAART camp which provides a 3-week intensive program offered to rising 4th-9th graders who show artistic ability and interest. This program enriches kids in their art form, and introduces them to other artistry through assigned minor classes. This year, the camp hosted 5 student interns to assist with this camp, and provide the students with an enriching and memorable summer camp experience.
Special thanks to the following CCSD departments for their expert help preparing for this summer’s cohort of student interns:
- Tameka Brown, Security and Emergency Management
- Michael Bryson and Judy Wyndham, Information Technology
- Aisha Singletary, Payroll
- Marianne Steele and Debra Gadson, Human Resources
